Made by fans in Auckland, New Zealand. The dude was waiting for a bus, and was heckled for waiting. Screenwriter: Jo Jung Hwa Producer: Popcorn Films Director: Kim Jong Hyuk . For starters, Jarmusch is a director of artistic and cultural inspirations: books, films and songs of all ages, Jarmusch is a living amalgamation of styles and trends that refuses the existence of originality.

Parts of it are slow, but it moves quickly.

Eddie seems to state the film's thesis while stomping across a snow-covered railroad track, baldly noting that everywhere looks the same. I recently read someone say, “In Detroit, I have a mild drinking problem,” and if you are not from the Midwest this movie will help you comprehend that.

Primarily based on director's influences and recommendations.

His best film might be this one, a miniature masterpiece that is underrated when compared to his other stuff. not my favourite from jarmusch so far but i still liked it and can see myself liking it more in the future!!

Cleveland is a blank white expanse, strangely vapid as opposed to pictorial. just goes to show how bad of a place florida is. It makes New York and Cleveland feel like small towns. And there's a superb bit of irony at the end that really makes this gem sparkle. It's a film about existential inertia. Maybe there's some hope buried in it somewhere, but mostly, it's ennui and boredom, failure and loneliness. A freelance sleuth neighbor moves Don to embark on a cross-country search for his old flames in search of answers.

On the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange aboriginal American man named Nobody who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world. I love movies that take their time saying such simple, simple things, probably because it has often taken me a lot of time to realize very simple, simple things about myself and other people and all the room in between. Waiting around, wasting time, traveling somewhere to wait even more.

A quiet observation of the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details.

(22 Mar 2019). But they can't, because the world is an empty place where even a different location doesn't offer much variety. Simply. This brings me to my final point that Jarmusch again does with intelligence. IMDb While never outside my wheelhouse, Jarmusch has been a flavor generally hard for me to groove on, which makes this now period historical film much easier to digest.

It’s so unexpected and off the cuff and actually awkward that I thought for a second that it wasn’t an actor but just a random dude. Anyway, another great Jarmusch joint. Three stories are connected by a Memphis hotel and the spirit of Elvis Presley. Director. I don't know I'm pretty confused right now because so little happened in this film and in some ways I really appreciate that and in some ways I don't. Rootless Hungarian émigré Willie, his pal Eddie, and visiting sixteen-year-old cousin Eva always manage to make the least of any situation, whether aimlessly traversing the drab interiors and environs of New York City, Cleveland, or an anonymous Florida suburb. It's a depressing note, and it's a depressing film. Add the first question. A depressed musician reunites with his lover.

One of my favorite scenes involves the characters driving and pulling over to pester a pedestrian. these characters have cast off integral or distinctive parts (or in the case of Edson's character those parts are never really revealed, although it's worth noting that he might as well be Lurie's twin), specifically their foreignness, searching for some intrinsically American experience that's…, Stranger Than Paradise is the first of Jim Jarmusch's three consecutive masterpieces and it seems to finally answer the age-old question of what would On The Road have been like if Albert Camus had written it instead of Jack Kerouac. This segment would be renamed "The New World" in the film.

Every scene just fades into dark, I wish he changed it a little but its only a minor problem. TMDb

The greyscale of the film fits its dreariness well.

... Eva. While Eva and Eddie are at least relatable, Willie is defiantly a hard loner with little to recommend him. This is definitely my favorite version of Jarmusch, the dude of stationary solitude and existentialist inertia with an air of coolness.

When the characters move from city to city, they have a passionate belief that what they will find is something unbelievable. Another cloudy, depressing feature that fills me with an airy, sad form of ease, which is exactly what I need today. A self-styled New York hipster is paid a surprise visit by his younger cousin from Budapest. Stranger Than Paradise is by definition a listless film. The basic premise of the film revolves around a New York immigrant from Eastern Europe, his goofy buddy, and his female cousin who comes to visit him and America as they jump from state to state. There isn't much of a plot for sure, but Jarmusch more than compensates for this fact by creating three distinct characters that manage to be sweet without resorting to cheap sentiment.

recommendations welcomed as always…, Pretty self-explanatory, "older films" must've come out at least 20 years ago. It's Jarmusch's best statement yet, and it's for these reasons this one must be seen even before even his fine "Mystery Train." Every cut leads to black, leads to one shot, and cut to black for the next shot again. Looking for some great streaming picks?

Jim Jarmusch's "wherever you go, it's all the same" movie may feel a little cynical about the joys of the world — here, the joys are mostly a stolen pack of cigarettes, an old cartoon on TV, and a win at the racetrack — but it's a terrific moody character study and it feels like the Rosetta Stone to understanding Jim Jarmusch's film rhythms, the way he lingers on shots and lets his characters sit around so viewers can study and understand them.

Jarmusch utilizes this ingenious editing technique where every shot ends with a cut to black.

Everything is the result of something previously done and represented either intellectually or stylistically, a philosophy that I fully support.

So it's a bunch of waiting around: going to bad movies and watching bad TV, let's keep trying to make it big…. Report this film. As the extremely withdrawn Don Johnston is dumped by his latest woman, he receives an anonymous letter from a former lover informing him that he has a son who may be looking for him.

These people are stuck in a spot they didn't ask for, doing the best they can, just hanging out....they need each other and build their lives around each other but never knew how to say it....just lovely. Shout out to Jim for the immaculate representation of depression in the Rust Belt. New York City layabout Willie (John Lurie) and his dopey sidekick, Eddie (Richard Edson), get by on TV dinners and beer financed by haphazard card-sharking.
